Another beautiful combo using @penrhyn_welsh_slate and @goldfarben_ 's fantastic produce.

It's been a crazy 10 days. In between all the tv madness, getting organised, emails, and building a workshop; I've been finishing the commissions I already had on the table.
This is for the fantastic john @otter.handmade, an amazing furniture maker I met last year. We were stall neighbours at an event and it's been a pleasure to make him this.

Neauvou Hare 2.0

I'm a bugger for seeing things I'd like to change in my designs! Making lines a bit more angular and experimenting with different paints.

Changes:

-more angular back and chest crest. (More long boi proportions)

-different carve on the tail and furthest arm. (Completely angular for better depth)

-more texture and Craigs Gold Leaf for the face framing. (@goldfarben_ 's gorgeous enamel for higher light reflection and durability)

TL;DR - Make it at market starts March 3rd running 15 episodes, Monday to Friday 3:45pm.

Mine is Episode 6 on Monday the 10th!

With hours to spare before the midnight deadline, I applied on a whim to be on the show. Within a week I was now committed to the biggest undertaking of my carving journey so far!

It has been extremely fun, stressful and exciting; and I have met some fantastic people along the way.
I was honouerd sharing the stage with @janbrucesculpture while filming. It was such a support to have someone so kind to face the days of filming with and he carves the most beautiful sculptures. It was so lovely to see his sketches and process!

I owe massive thanks to my mentor @francis_stone_design too, as he is still at the end of the phone when I need him! It's been a real privilege to have that kind of knowledge to call upon, even long after filming.

Everyone from the crew to the other makers have been so supportive and I can not thank them enough!

Now it's all done and official, I guess we just wait and see what happens!

Old but Gold!

The lovely couple who bought this from me entered my piece in a photography competition based around stone.

I think they've taken a beautiful shot!

This piece holds a very special place in my heart as it was the most expensive piece I'd made up to that point.

I'd only been carving/trading about 5 or 6 months and I hadn't grown confident in valuing my work (and still kind of struggle 😂).
I was fully expecting for it to not sell for a long time.

Then the second people to notice and comment on it, snapped it up!

I was riding that high for weeks; it was such a confidence boost. Something that I made, loved and followed my gut with had resonated with others.

It absolutely gave me the confidence to experiment more and go out on limbs/tangents. To see how much they loved it was (and still is) so motivating!

Free standing plaque memorial.

I was caught in a rock and a hard place with this one!

I wanted to carve as much detail as possible but needed to keep the size manageable so it would be handled/sit on a countertop comfortably.

I settled on painting as much detail as possible on the bits too small to hold a carve.

I am very grateful my commissioner was so patient as this was tasked to me during the madness of filming and only recently had the chance to finalise, carve and paint the design.

I don't have any back story to this one, though I was told that when gifted, the recipient was 'overwhelmed'.

I count myself very lucky to be part of people's lives even if we never meet. It's a lovely feeling.

Sometimes, as an artist, you just have to trust your process...

I still feel hesitant saying 'an artist', haha!

Sometimes, I meticulously plan and template commissions; other times, I prefer a very minimal sketch.

If I can understand the lines, then I can figure out the details as I go. This is how I worked the snail.

Unfortunately, the eye stalks were too delicate to be purely stone, so we settled on using steel rod.

The commission was from a lady who has a long-running joke with their friend. She bought a snail sculpture (basically from under him) and now they get each other snail sculptures as offerings of peace haha!

It's lovely doing truly 3D carves and I'm very glad my first a snail!
The shell is quite a mind bender, simple though it may seem!
